High quality content isn’t dead! Trust me bro….and in a world where anyone can post anything, that’s actually the biggest opportunity a brand or creator has right now. The question isn’t whether premium content matters, it’s whether you know how to create it.

Let’s define premium content, it’s any content that delivers genuine value, whether through production quality, original research, expert insight or entertainment. In other words, content that people actually get something out of. In marketing it gets slightly more complicated, as it can also mean gated content.

What’s Gated Content?

Great question, and I’m going to follow up with an even better example. Imagine your loving uncle, the one you see once a year, writes Harry Potter fan fiction. These stories are amazing. In fact, they went viral on Reddit. However, the romantic Harry and Dobby love story is too juicy to just spread around for free without any form of monetization. It’s a lot of work and there’s a demand. So, instead, he creates a paywall, a monthly subscription. For the measly price of a Starbucks coffee; $30. With only just that amount, you get access to the entire story.

Now, gated content isn’t just about monetization. It could be as simple as an email signup (in this case, your payment is your information). Think newsletters, private courses, exclusive communities. This type of content typically requires a lot of hard work and research.

And don’t be mistaken, premium content doesn’t always translate to expensive or high-budget. There are a lot of factors at play: time, research, and the value of the content itself.

Is High-Quality Content Dead?

It’s easy to get that misconception when scrolling through TikTok and coming across a video of someone tracing their fingers along their jawline garnering millions of views. No, seriously, that’s a real video. And guess what, I liked it with my Cheeto-stained finger. But seeing something like that pulls millions of views; content that could’ve been filmed in the bathroom of a gas station, it’s easy to assume quality has dimmed and that people’s standards have changed.

Here’s the twist. People still do (and always will) crave for high-quality content. The rise of fast-paced short-form video simply opened a door for anyone to post, but it never shut on anything else.

If anything, the competition for high-quality content has thinned, creating an opportunity to be discovered by an audience actively craving something more aesthetically pleasing and more substantive. You don’t have to look far down the timeline to see this play out. When abstract art first arrived, many critics assumed the grim reaper was nigh for artists who could draw a straight line, but they were wrong.

The word that gets misused in the creator space is “evolution.” Art doesn’t evolve, it expands. And right now there’s a wave of people, including studios, leaning toward higher production value. Trend surfing is great, but if you want to truly stand out, you need a tsunami.

What Are the Four Types of Premium Content?

  • Written Content: Blog posts, articles, newsletters, case studies, social media captions, scripts. Great for SEO and establishing authority.
  • Visual Content: Images, infographics, photography, graphic design, memes (yes, memes can be high-quality, debate me), and illustrations. We are visual animals, unlike the koala who relies on reading.
  • Video Content: Short-form (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), long-form (YouTube, documentaries), live streams and webinars. This is the fastest growing and arguably the most impactful format, depending on the message you’re trying to get across.
  • Audio Content: Podcasts, voiceovers, audio articles, music. If video killed the radio star, well, the radio star just had its second coming in the form of a podcast. Audio has a massive market. The phrase “we should start a podcast, bro” has plagued college campuses worldwide for a reason.

Where Do I Start With a Low Budget Premium Video?

You’re not good at video production, editing or scriptwriting? Don’t have a fancy microphone? Can’t afford a camera right now?

It’s overwhelming at first, but luckily, you’re living in 2026 and I’m going to help you. Before we dive in, let’s clarify something again. High-quality content does not equal a huge budget. You can create high-quality content with a potato camera.

Sure, production quality is something to strive for, but if the script, topic and editing are solid, they can override the visual. The time and care you put into a video will show, and the key is that you grow over time. Look up any company’s channel, sort by oldest, and just watch the progression. You do not need all the equipment right this minute. Let’s go through the checklist.

Visual

Personally, I love shooting with a DSLR, but a modern iPhone or Samsung is more than sufficient to get great quality. One overlooked first step is to make sure your camera settings are on point.

As a proud member of the Apple cult, I’ve noticed that my phone defaults to HD rather than 4K for no apparent reason and somehow keeps reverting back. Phone cameras rely heavily on automatic settings, which can be frustrating if you want more control. However, with the right settings and even a low cost attachment like a ring light, you’ll be surprised what you can pull off.

Microphone

This might violate the terms and agreements I signed with Apple, but the built-in iPhone microphone is genuinely not great. Alternatives like Rode mics and DJI mics are highly recommended, but if you’re on a budget, I’ve got you boo.

Use your phone microphone and upload the audio to Adobe Podcast. It uses AI technology to clean up your audio quality and you can even adjust how much background noise you want removed.

WARNING: If you push the settings to max, you will sound like an underwater robot.

Another WARNING: Be careful buying a $20 microphone from Amazon. I literally have a cemetery of cheap microphones in my room; ones that either broke or just delivered underwhelming quality. You’re better off saving for a trusted brand. Read the reviews and eventually you’ll find the mic that gives you that 4k Morgan Freeman voice.

Editing

This is the part that scares most content creators, but there’s only one thing to fear, and that’s YouTube crashing from all the likes on your Wuthering Heights analysis video. Adobe Premiere, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve… there are so many options.

Here’s the secret: no matter what software you use, you can edit something fantastic with any of them. If you’re a beginner, I recommend starting with CapCut. It’s also more affordable. There are plenty of tutorials and it has a ton of useful shortcuts, transitions, stock music, stock photos and effects. If even that feels like too much, look up AI editing tools. Most work best with only vertical short form content, but if you have a 9:16 video and want to make it shine just a bit, go search “AI video editing” on Google, or AOL if you’re spicy and you’ll find something.

These tools have come a long way. When they first launched it was laughable (not “out loud” laughable, more of a quiet, sad laugh). But over time they’ve become genuinely impressive.

Script Writing

You have ideas but putting them into words is a struggle? I have something that might help and yes, this is my selling out moment. If you genuinely need help, you can use AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok.

I know Shakespeare is rolling around in his grave like it’s disco night, but if you use AI as a tool rather than an unpaid intern, you can find real value. You still want YOU in the script. People can smell AI from a mile away.

AI is also useful for brainstorming, trimming length and fixing structure. Whatever tool you use, build a thread so it learns your style and understands your goals. Premium content leans toward originality, so don’t steal other people’s ideas, and remember: don’t strictly have it all artificial. Research, and then research some more.

The Pitch

Creating content is like sales: you need something or someone to pitch to. If your content involves you on camera and you’re feeling uneasy, maybe unsure about your delivery or feeling stiff, calm down. Any new skill takes time and consistent effort. Leave your ego behind and just do it. That doesn’t mean ignoring critique. Think of yourself as a sculpture in progress every piece of feedback is a tool shaping your future self.

Most of it comes down to comfort, and there’s no AI shortcut for that. However, if you want to use a voiceover instead, tools like ElevenLabs can generate a realistic voice. Judge me all you want, but AI voiceovers are becoming genuinely popular. You can even clone your own voice and have it narrate your content. The cloning is impressive; it sounds like you, but it’s not perfect. Make sure you check it before you ship it.

Examples of Premium Content

Here’s one example. Grab a mirror, turn it around and point it at your screen. Look at the reflection. This is Premium Content. Oh sorry,…tnetnoC muimerP si sihT.

Why is it premium? It took research, time, and multiple rounds of peer review. Let’s look at some other premium content examples:

Mr. Beast

Mr. Beast doesn’t just make strange-looking thumbnails, he creates an experience. Every production involves cinematic quality, high-stakes concepts, and genuine value for the viewer. However, don’t get intimidated by all the money; it has more to do with the obsessive attention to detail that makes every second feel intentional.

Vox

Vox’s explainer videos take complex topics and make them understandable through beautiful animation, tight scripting, and original research. Watch five seconds and you’ll see that each frame is crafted meticulously.

Huberman Lab Podcast

Thoroughly researched topics with long, engaging conversations. Personally, it’s a bit too complicated for my little monkey brain.

Spotify Wrapped

Useful, surprising, visually stunning and deeply personal all at once and surprisingly doesn’t feel like marketing. It does something rare which is making it feel more like a gift.

Spotify Wrapped, an example of premium content.

Start Creating Now!

Premium or not, actually starting is the hardest part, and the expectation of high quality content can create a ball of anxiety. But what if that’s just part of the process? Wondering whether your content sits at the threshold of greatness is a feeling shared amongst all creators. And honestly? That’s a good thing. Use that energy as fuel.

The feeling of “it’s a waste of time” is the enemy of us all, but the desire for your work to be recognized is the fuel you need to hold onto. Your premium content might not shine at first. It might take a lot of work and a lot of time. But know this every second you put in was never wasted, as long as you push through. The internet is a big enough space to fit everyone.
